Excessive film use often comes from oversized gauges, poorly used prestretch, heavy cores or an inconsistent application.

Reduction must be validated by load and route. The goal is not less material at any cost, but stable pallets with a more efficient setup.

Where overconsumption usually starts

Many operations use more film out of habit: extra turns to compensate for variable loads, rolls that do not use prestretch well or buying by roll price instead of cost per pallet.

Waste can also come from breaks, cores, frequent roll changes or differences between operators.

What should be measured

Gauge alone is not enough. Compare meters applied, number of turns, packaging weight per pallet, incidents, application time and waste generated.

With machines, it is also important to check whether real prestretch matches the expected value and whether the roll runs without stops.

Reduce without moving the problem

A thinner film can be a good option if it keeps the required containment. If it causes breaks, rework or rejected pallets, the saving disappears.

The improvement should be validated with usual loads, not only with an ideal trial.

Compare the finished pallet: grams applied, meters consumed, wrapping time, incidents and generated waste.

A lower roll price can be expensive if it contains fewer useful meters, breaks more or forces extra turns.
